When I was a small boy, half a century ago, our back garden was next to the railway sidings on the Great Central Railway. Here I used to play among the trucks, helping the men unload, and shunt the trucks around. Taking down the numbers of the passing express trains, a national hobby for all schoolboys, was the past-time I enjoyed. I even managed to "cab" some of the more famous locomotives. Having a background like that, it seems only natural to want to take photographs of any steam locomotive, big or small.
